Suzy Piani started in gymnastics at age seven, followed by training in Jazz and Contemporary Dance, performing in local productions and competing in eisteddfods, and to national level in physical culture.

After leaving high school, Suzy studied at the University of New England (B.Sc, Grad.Dip.Ed) and University of New South Wales (Cert. Dance in Ed.), then trained full-time at Dance Factory in Melbourne (Certificate III in Dance, Musical Theatre and Performance).

Suzy went on to a professional performing career as a dancer, model, singer, actor, dance captain and choreographer in stage shows, corporate productions, TV productions and films. Between performance contracts and appearances, she worked as a high school teacher (Dance, Science and Maths), including co-writing and facilitating the VCE Dance course for Distance Education Centre Victoria.

Over the last two decades, Suzy has worked as a dance teacher in a number of private dance studios across Melbourne and Canberra; also choreographing various corporate events and dance theatre productions. During her time teaching in a studio in Canberra, she experienced numerous successes with her students competing at both the state and national level and saw many of her students accepted into pre-professional dance courses throughout Australia.

In 2013, Suzy started working with Bonnie Neate, and they have choreographed extensively together to produce works that showcase their innovative and quirky brand of choreography. This led to the formation of The Training Ground and the facilitation of their critically acclaimed and award-winning community-based pre-professional contemporary dance training programs and original full-length contemporary dance works.

In 2021, Suzy co-created and co-directed Unveiled with Bonnie Neate. Their first full-length dance work under The Training Ground, Unveiled, received glowing reviews, as well as numerous awards (Canberra Critics Circle, Canberra Area Theatre Awards) which praised its originality and demanding choreography. In 2022, Suzy co-created and co-directed Unravel, followed by Unhinged in 2023, both of which were also highly successful, seeing students going onto tertiary courses and professional careers.

Suzy is known and respected for her ability to meticulously train dancers to an elite and pre-professional level in the genres of Jazz, Contemporary Dance and Acrobatics.
Both Suzy and Bonnie are widely praised for their commitment to the Canberra dance community, innovative choreography and unique dance training programs.
