Suzy Piani began her performance journey in gymnastics at age seven before expanding into Jazz and Contemporary Dance, performing locally and competing nationally in physical culture. She holds a B.Sc. and Grad.Dip.Ed. from the University of New England, a Certificate in Dance in Education from UNSW, and a Certificate III in Dance, Musical Theatre and Performance from Melbourne’s Dance Factory.

Suzy has built an impressive and diverse professional career as a dancer, model, singer, actor, dance captain, and choreographer across stage shows, corporate productions, television, and film. Between performance contracts, she taught high school Dance, Science, and Mathematics, and co-wrote the VCE Dance course for Distance Education Centre Victoria—demonstrating her commitment to dance education at all levels.

For over two decades, Suzy has taught at private studios across Melbourne and Canberra while choreographing corporate events and dance theatre productions. Her students consistently excel at state and national competitions, with many gaining acceptance into pre-professional programs and tertiary institutions throughout Australia.

In 2013, Suzy partnered with Bonnie Neate, and together they developed their distinctive innovative and quirky choreographic style. This creative partnership led to the formation of The Training Ground in 2020 and the establishment of their critically acclaimed pre-professional training programs. Together, they have created five award-winning full-length works: Unveiled (2021), Unravel (2022), Unhinged (2023), Wired (2024), and The Fold (2025)—earning Canberra Critics Circle Awards and Canberra Area Theatre Awards recognition for their originality, artistry, and demanding choreography.

Suzy is renowned for her meticulous, elite-level training in Jazz, Contemporary Dance, and Acrobatics. Alongside Bonnie, she is celebrated for her boundary-pushing choreography, exceptional mentorship, and unwavering dedication to Canberra’s dance community. Their unique training programs consistently produce professional-level dancers ready for the industry.
