Annual Community-Based Pre-Professional Contemporary Dance Project

The Training Ground: Elevating Dance in the ACT

Igniting Passion, Forging Professionals

Since 2021, The Training Ground has been revolutionizing the dance scene in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) with our groundbreaking 6-month contemporary dance training program. Under the visionary leadership of choreographers Bonnie Neate and Suzy Piani, we’re not just teaching dance—we’re sculpting the future of the art form.

A Legacy of Excellence

Our impact has been nothing short of spectacular:

– *2021*: Launched “UNVEILED,” the first pre-professional community-based contemporary dance project in the ACT
– *2021-2023*: Swept multiple prestigious awards, including:
– Canberra Critics Circle Awards
– Canberra Area Theatre Awards
– CAT (Combined Area Theatre) Awards

 The Program: A Dance Revolution

Imagine six months of:
– Cutting-edge contemporary floorwork
– Intense pas de deux training
– Rigorous repertoire that pushes boundaries

All culminating in a breathtaking, original full-length performance that simulates life in a professional dance company. This isn’t just training—it’s transformation.

Why We Are Game-Changers

1. *Bridging the Gap*: We’re the missing link between recreational studio dancing and the pre-professional world.
2. *Keeping Talent Local*: No more interstate travel for elite training. The best is now in your backyard.
3. *Personalised Excellence*: We craft bespoke training plans, focusing on the technical skills crucial for aspiring professionals.
4. *Dream Weavers*: We don’t just train dancers; we shape careers, providing clear pathways to prestigious pre-professional and tertiary dance courses.

 The Annual Spectacular

Our community-based contemporary project is where dreams take flight. For six exhilarating months, we mold a cast into a cohesive unit, ready to perform a challenging, original work. It’s more than a show—it’s a multimedia extravaganza, bringing together local artists, filmmakers, theatre professionals, and photographers in a celebration of creativity.

 Join the Movement

At The Training Ground, we’re not just teaching dance—we’re creating the next generation of dance luminaries. Are you ready to be unveiled, unraveled, unhinged and wired? Your journey to dance excellence starts here.

TTG Troupe Program

TTG Troupe Program is an exciting opportunity for dancers aged 6 years and over to experience unique and challenging performance opportunities.

With highly experienced, creative and supportive teachers, students will thrive and become very accomplished and confident dancers. Upon successful application, selected dancers will rapidly develop and extend their technical and performance skills in a supportive and mentoring environment. Within this program, students will train in a range of styles (classical ballet, contemporary, jazz and acrobatics), creating strong, technical and versatile dancers.

TTG Troupes will perform in eisteddfods, competitions and participate in extended performance projects.

Email us to find out more.

The TTG Troupe Program has also been developed to be cost and time effective for busy families. To find out more by emailing enquiry@thetraininggroundact.au.

RAD Ballet Program

Students are provided training and examination opportunities in the internationally-recognised Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. Through both our RAD ballet classes and the wealth of experience provided from Mrs Anne Reardon (RAD/RTS and ATOD affiliate teacher), students are trained and prepared (if desired) to sit various RAD examinations and/or Class Awards (Grade and Vocational Syllabus + Repertoire Syllabus).
